A Painted Lady exclusive, this cactus wall hanging is the unique statement piece you’ve been looking for to complete your southwestern décor. Made from handmade, ceramic opuntia pads strung on natural jute cord in a vertical line.

In Southern California, prickly pear cactuses (also known as opuntia, or paddle cactus) are all around us. They grow wild in the desert and are used in landscaping around houses and businesses. Some can grow up to 7 meters tall! Having recently transplanted myself from the temperate forest of the Pacific Northwest to the high desert of California 1000 miles away, I am in awe of the beauty of the landscapes of this climate. I wanted to use clay to capture the quiet essence of the desert and these cactuses, so others outside of the desert can bring it to their everyday décor.

Approx. 22 inches long, this wall hanging is a lovely accent for a doorway or will compliment any gallery wall arrangement and bring the outside in.

MATERIALS & MEASUREMENTS
Each prickly pear pad starts out as soft clay, then each pad is cut by hand from a slab. After they are rounded and shaped, teeny prickles are added to the surface to mimic the natural form of the opuntia.

(Fun Fact: prickles are what make cactuses special from other succulents!)

After drying, the pads are bisque fired in a kiln, then glazed and fired again up to 2300 degrees F.
The piece is then finished with natural jute cord.

Made of stoneware, this cactus wall hanging is sturdy and weather-resistant. It can even be hung outside to compliment patio décor.
